Use Custom Rule Builder when a merchant needs more control than the standard AIOD template forms provide. This is a top-level template. In Shopify admin, open Apps > AIOD Discount & Gift > Discount Templates. Custom Rule Builder appears under Popular Ways to Create Discounts; click Start creating to open the form directly. There is no longer an Advanced Rules parent card or Select type step. The template card says: “Create highly flexible discounts with custom rules and conditions for products, customers, cart details, purchase type, and more.”

When to use this template

Use this template for:
  • Custom discount logic that does not fit a simpler template.
  • Discounts based on cart subtotal, order weight, cart quantity, products, collections, variants, metafields, purchase type, country, customer tags, past orders, login status, or customer email.
  • Discounts that should apply to all items, eligible condition items, specific items, or all items except selected items.
  • Product-level or order-level discount behavior.
Use Reject Discount Codes instead when the goal is to block specific discount codes when rules are met.

Top-level controls

The form includes:
  • Discount ID (For your reference) with placeholder eg: GET 20% OFF.
  • Discount Method.
  • When should this discount apply?
  • Apply discount to.
  • Where to apply the discount.
  • Discount Rules & Limits.
  • Purchase Type eligibility.
  • Sales channel.
  • Customer Segment.
  • Combinations.
  • Schedule.
  • Additional Settings.
  • Show Discounted Price Crossout.

Status mode

The top-right status dropdown controls who can use or see the discount.

Discount method

The Discount Method section supports:
  • Automatic discount
  • Discount code
For automatic discounts, AIOD shows:
  • Title
  • Keep same as identifier
AIOD says customers will see the title in cart and checkout.

When should this discount apply?

The When should this discount apply? section controls the trigger condition. It is a single searchable dropdown (placeholder Search conditions…) rather than a multi-condition builder. The default is Always. Click the dropdown to choose a trigger.

Product condition example

When Product is selected, AIOD shows:
  • Operator dropdown with matches any of, matches all of, and does not match any of.
  • Select products picker.
  • Empty state: No products selected.
  • Minimum Quantity of ANY above selected products in cart. The default shown is 1.
  • Advanced Settings for the condition.
The form no longer shows AND condition or OR condition controls. Only one condition can be selected at a time; choosing a different condition from the dropdown replaces the current one instead of adding a rule block.

Condition advanced settings

For product-style conditions, click Advanced Settings inside the condition block to reveal:

Exclude items from conditions

At the bottom of the When should this discount apply? card, Exclude items (optional) hides selected products, variants, or collections while the condition is checked. Read Exclude items from conditions for information about this.

Apply discount to

The Apply discount to section controls which items receive the discount. Target options: The default observed target was Apply Discount to All.

Discount value

The Discount Type dropdown controls how AIOD interprets Discount Value. Options:
  • Percentage
  • Fixed Discount
  • Fixed Final Price

Where to apply the discount

The Where to apply the discount section controls discount scope.

Discount rules and limits

The Discount Rules & Limits section includes:

Purchase type eligibility

The Purchase Type eligibility section is now a standalone section on the form. It previously appeared inside Advanced Settings (Optional); that option has moved out to its own section.

Sales channel

Read Sales channel for the channels (Online store, Tapcart mobile app, POS), their defaults, and POS locations.

Customer segment

The Customer Segment section restricts the discount to selected Shopify customer segments. AIOD describes this section as: “This discount will be only applicable for customers in the selected segments.”

Combinations

The Combinations section (renamed from the generic combine-with link-out) controls which other discounts this offer can combine with. Controls:
  • Product discounts checkbox. When checked, shows Tags this discount stacks with.
  • Order discounts checkbox.
  • Shipping discounts checkbox.
Read This discount can be combined with for the shared combination behavior, and Tags this discount stacks with for the stacking-tags field.

Discount tags

A Discount tags card appears in the right-hand column of the form. Read Discount tags for information about this.

Schedule

The Schedule section (renamed from Active Dates) controls when the discount starts and ends. Options:
  • Run continuously — selected by default. The discount has no start or end date.
  • Set a schedule — reveals start and end date or time fields.

Additional settings

The Additional Settings section is now always visible on the form; it is no longer behind a collapsed Advanced Settings (Optional) toggle. It includes: Purchase Type Eligibility and the subscription-cycle limit moved out of this section into their own Purchase type eligibility section.

Show discounted price crossout

Read Show Discounted Price Crossout for the shared storefront strikethrough pricing controls and placement steps.
