Use Tiered free gifts when a merchant wants customers to unlock more or better gifts as they spend more or buy more. The template card says: “Unlock more gifts as customers buy more. Spend $50 -> Gift A, Spend $100 -> Gift B)”. Its tags are Free Gift, Gift Widget, and Tiered Offer.

When to use this template

Use this template for:
  • Spend $50, get Gift A. Spend $100, get Gift B.
  • Buy 3 items, get one gift. Buy 6 items, get a bigger gift.
  • Gift ladders, gift-with-purchase tiers, or “spend more, unlock more gifts” offers.
  • Tiered gifts that customers choose from a gift widget, one set of choices per tier.
  • Tiered gifts at a special discounted price instead of fully free.
Use another template when:
  • One gift unlocks at one threshold. Use Free Gift with Purchase (the Simple free gifts card).
  • Tiers mix gifts with percentage, fixed-amount, or shipping rewards. Use Tiered Discount, where each tier’s Customer gets can be Free gift.
  • The gift depends on buying specific X items. Use Buy X Get Y (Gift).

Entry point

In Shopify admin, open Apps > AIOD Discount & Gift > Discount Templates.
  1. Click Create on the Free gifts card.
  2. AIOD opens a Select type page with two inner templates:
  1. Click Tiered free gifts.
Tiered free gifts uses the same editor as Tiered Discount, restricted to gift rewards. A saved tiered free gift opens in the Tiered free gifts form again.

Top-level controls

The form has three tabs: There is no Progress Bar Widget tab. The tiered progress bar used by Tiered Discount is not available on this template. AIOD can show a theme-extension alert at the top of the form. The merchant must enable and save the Latest Widget Manager app embed in the theme editor for the gift widget to appear on the storefront.

Status mode

The top-right status dropdown controls who can use or see the discount. The create form shows only Active and Testing mode. Deactivate becomes available after the discount is saved.

Tiers Based On?

This card sets what every tier’s threshold measures. It reads as one sentence: “Gift Tiers are calculated based on [Quantity or Purchase amount] of [All products, Specific products, Specific collections, or Specific variants] in the cart.” Purchase amount of All products is the default for a new tiered free gift. Choosing a specific option reveals a picker below the sentence. Select at least one product, collection, or variant. Saving with an empty picker shows an error such as Select at least one product. The selected items count toward the threshold in total, across all selected items. This template does not show the Calculation method card or Exclude items (optional) that Tiered Discount shows.

Consider subtotal

When tiers are based on Purchase amount, AIOD shows Consider subtotal: Choosing After discount forces Stack all unlocked tiers under Reward behavior.

Set up your discount tiers

Each tier has: Every tier is a gift tier. The Customer gets dropdown that Tiered Discount shows is hidden here. Click Add another tier to add more tiers. Every tier after Tier 1 has a delete button.

Gift adding method

This card controls how each tier’s gifts reach the cart. The options depend on How should this discount be applied? further down the Offer tab. On a new discount, the two options of the other discount method are listed but disabled. Their tooltip tells the merchant to switch How should this discount be applied? first. After the discount is saved, only the current discount method’s two options are shown. With Customer chooses or Code + customer chooses:
  • The customer claims gifts separately for each unlocked tier. Each tier’s Free gift quantity limits how many gifts the customer can claim from that tier.
  • In checkout, the AIOD gift claim lists the gifts under a heading per tier, such as Tier 1, when several tiers are unlocked.
  • If the cart drops below a tier’s threshold, AIOD removes the gift claimed for that tier.
A tiered discount with a customer-choice gift method saved before October 22, 2026 needs to be opened and saved once. Until then, a gift claimed in checkout can be charged at full price.

Reward behavior

With Only highest unlocked tier and a customer-choice method, reaching a higher tier removes a gift the customer claimed from a lower tier. The gift stays when Auto remove is off or the gift widget’s Don’t Remove Invalid Claimed Items is checked. When Stack all unlocked tiers is selected, AIOD also shows Move overlapping tier discounts to other eligible items and its nested option Don’t count discounted items toward later tiers.

Discount method

How should this discount be applied? offers Automatic and Discount code, as on Tiered Discount. The method cannot be changed after the discount is saved. Automatic shows Title. Discount code shows the code field, code generation, bulk codes, and usage limits. Code-based gifts need the AIOD Discount Input widget. Read Discount Code Input.

Schedule

Choose Run continuously or Set a schedule. Set a schedule shows Start date, Start time, End date, and End time.

Advance Settings

The Advance Settings tab shows these cards, in this order:
  • Customer eligibility: All customers or Specific customers.
  • Markets: All markets, All markets except specific selected countries, or Specific selected countries.
  • Offer-Wide Conditions: Extra conditions that must be met for the offer to apply.
  • Combinations. Read the section below.
  • Sales channel: Online store, POS, and Tapcart mobile app once Tapcart is on. Read Sales channel.
  • Offer pricing.
  • Cart refresh and behavior.
This template hides Quantity Limits, Purchase Type eligibility, and Discount exclusions. Gift quantity is set per tier on the Offer tab.

How should this discount combine with other discounts?

Read This discount can be combined with for information about this.

Offer pricing

Offer pricing chooses whether the gifts are free or discounted. It works as on Free Gift with Purchase:
  • Offer as free gift. This is the default.
  • Offer at a discounted price. Reveals Discount percentage (%). AIOD fills 50 when the merchant switches to it.
  • Exclude AIOD-attributed items from condition calculation.
One price covers every gift tier. Changing it updates all tiers, and a new tier takes the same price.

Cart refresh and behavior

Cart refresh and behavior works as on Free Gift with Purchase: With Allow gift opt-out, a gift the customer removed stays removed while any tier of the discount is still unlocked. It is not added back just because the customer has not reached a higher tier. The card also shows the Instant cart refresh notice. If the side cart drawer does not refresh when a gift is added or removed, contact support.

Gift Widget

The Gift Widget tab configures the storefront tiered gift widget. On this template the widget is always enabled, and there is no enable checkbox. The widget shows one panel per tier. On the storefront it opens on the highest tier the cart has reached, and on Tier 1 before the first threshold is reached. With a customer-choice method, customers claim gifts from this widget. The widget’s placement and preview appear in the right-hand column of this tab. A new widget is placed on the cart page.

Save

Click Save after configuring the tiers, gift adding method, advanced settings, gift widget, status, and schedule.
