Just ask
Gift or BOGO?
This is the one distinction that matters, and it’s easy to get wrong.
A gift is never something the customer has to add to their own cart. And a gift is always 100% free — a partially discounted add-on is a BOGO, not a gift.
Merchant-facing settings: Free Gift with Purchase.
What the agent does
- Reads the
unified_free_giftcontract. - Picks a specific gift — a variant ideally, or a product. A collection or “all items” can’t be a gift, because nothing could decide which one to add.
- Sets the unlock condition: cart subtotal, cart quantity, item quantity, or anything else AIOD supports.
- Sets how many gifts, whether the offer repeats as the condition is met again, and whether the shopper chooses or AIOD adds it automatically.
- Drafts it and hands you a link.
Worth knowing
- The gift has to be a specific item. If the gift needs to come from the same collection as the trigger, that’s a BOGO instead — a collection trigger can’t decide which variant to insert.
- Tiered promotions can hand out gifts per tier too. See Quantity discounts.
